HomeEviction Diversion Program
Individuals and families facing eviction can apply for assistance through Durham County’s Eviction Diversion Program. Applicants can be referred to the program by Legal Aid or by calling 919-560-8000.
Households that meet the following criteria may be eligible:
- Applicant must be an established resident of Durham County and provide documented proof of residency
- Applicant must have experienced a sudden loss of income that impacted their ability to pay the rental account and show documented proof of the loss of income (Refer to the County Emergency Assistance policy for what constitutes a loss of income)
- The applicant can demonstrate that the renal arrears are a direct result of the loss of income
- The household must be sustainable (have a source of consistent, stable monthly income that is greater than the total monthly expenses). Sustainability can be waived if applicant lost their job or source of income within 30 days of application.
- The household’s total monthly gross income cannot exceed the program’s established Federal Poverty Income Level (FPL) of 200%.
- The applicant must be at least 2 months in arrears or be in eviction court
