How To Do Business With Durham County

Durham County Purchasing Division strives to provide an opportunity for all businesses to participate in all aspects of the County’s contracting programs, including but not limited to, the procurement of construction, goods and services.  The County operates in a hybrid (centralized and decentralized) procurement environment.

  • County departments utilize procurement cards for small purchases less than $1,000

  • County departments may solicit quotes directly from businesses for goods and services that value less than $30,000

  • Informal and Formal bidding (when applicable) are handled by the Purchasing Division for construction, goods and services that value $30,000 or more

  • The County participates in many contracts issued by the North Carolina Division of Purchase and Contracts and in various Cooperative Purchasing Programs.  Purchases from these contracts do not require bidding by the County.

The Purchasing Division acts in a consulting capacity to advise and guide internal and external customers through the procurement process and ensures that all procurement activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and approved policies and procedures.

Bid opportunities are published in the Durham Herald Sun and the Triangle Tribute newspapers.  However, to receive automated notification about bid opportunities handled by the Purchasing Division, suppliers must register in the County’s eBid System.   Please visit our Bid Opportunities page for more information.
