The Compliance section of the Utilities Division serves the County and the environment by working collaboratively with the business community, citizens and other City/County staff to maintain local, state and federal regulations. The objectives of the Durham County Pretreatment Program are to prevent the introduction of pollutants into the collection system which will pass-through, interfere, or cause other adverse impacts to the collection system, Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant, its workers, or the environment and to promote the beneficial reuse of biosolids.

The Durham County Sewer Use Ordinance (SUO) was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners as a regulatory guidance document for compliance with permits and state and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act and General Pretreatment Regulations.
