Secondary Project Manager: James Faress, P.E. (919) 560-7963
Project Description
This project entails range upgrades to the existing Durham County Sheriff’s Training grounds and construction of a new 10,000sf instructional building. The existing site is an outdoor firearms training range which was constructed over a closed landfill in 1985. The range supports pistol and rifle practice, and currency training for Sheriff Department personnel. Improvements to the range include re-grading and import of new fill for proper drainage, construction of berms to create four 180-degree training venues, new target-reveal systems, improved night lighting, replacement of existing covered shelter and enclosed viewing tower, PA system, paved parking, and re-build of rifle targets/shooting platforms. The new 10,000sf building will include classroom/training rooms, staff offices, locker rooms/showers, and a grounds maintenance garage/workshop.
