County Solid Waste Announces Winter Schedule

Post Date:10/16/2013 1:00 PM
Durham, N.C. – Disposing of trash, recyclables and other waste items at Durham County’s Convenience Sites is designed to be safe and convenient for citizens. Keeping safety as the number one priority for customers using any of Durham County’s four convenience sites, a Winter schedule in coordination with the end of Daylight Saving Time will begin on Monday, November 4, 2013.The seasonal schedule will cause all four convenience sites will close one hour earlier than the current operation schedule.

The Winter hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
According to Brian S. Haynesworth, program manager for the Durham County General Services’ Solid Waste Division, “The safety of citizens and employees is the primary reason for the hour earlier closure of the convenience sites. Several sites are located in wooded areas that get dark quickly during the Winter months. We do not want to risk a customer or one our site attendants getting injured

Sites will resume their regular hours of 7a.m.-7p.m. in March 2014 when Daylight Saving Time resumes.

Haynesworth also cites the schedule change is impacted by lower customer participation rates during the Winter schedule period. Customers using any of the County’s four convenience sites are encouraged to adjust their schedules to dispose of solid waste and deliver recyclables accordingly.
Site locations include:

• Bahama – 9008 Quail Roost Road, Bahama, 27503
• Redwood – 100 Electra Road, Durham, 27704
• Rougemont – 108 Bill Poole Road, Rougemont, 27572
• Parkwood – 5628 Highway 55, Durham, 27713
