Durham, N.C. – The Bull City 150 Uneven Ground: The Foundations of Housing Inequality in Durham, NC exhibit will be displayed at the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH), 414 E. Main St., second floor mezzanine from July 24 through early September. The Partnership for a Health Durham and DCoDPH are hosting the exhibit in recognition of the top health priority identified in the 2017 Community Health Assessment, affordable housing. The exhibit is free and open to visitors Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“Uneven Ground” was created to develop a greater understanding of the root causes of housing inequality in Durham. The exhibit uses a historical perspective and storytelling to illustrate how race, class and policies have impacted housing and land inequities in Durham from colonial times through the 1960s.

 “We wanted to bring ‘Uneven Ground’ to the health department so everyone who enters our building can learn more about Durham’s history. Affordable housing is the number one health priority in Durham County and the exhibit helps link how past policies and practices affect current health outcomes,” said Durham County Department of Public Health Director Gayle Harris.
