To celebrate National Recovery Month, the Recovery Celebration Planning Committee is pleased to announce a recovery event for Durham on Saturday, September 19th from 3pm to 8 pm at the Criminal Justice Resource Center.
If you are in recovery, interested in recovery, a friend, family member or ally of someone in recovery, please plan to celebrate with us. Mark your calendars and spread the word, everyone's invited.
With the theme 'JOIN THE VOICES FOR RECOVERY: visible, vocal, valuable!' we plan to promote the positive benefit and contributions of people in recovery from mental and substance use disorders. Although there has been progress, there continues to be significant stigma and shame attached to behavioral disorders, even though SAMHSA reports that by 2020, mental health and substance use disorders will surpass all physical diseases as a major cause of disability worldwide.
It is our belief that meeting, socializing and celebrating with people in recovery helps break down stereotypes and promotes the positive message that people can and do recover.
