LRC started as a Reentry Subcommittee from the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. NCDPS had to identify entities within each of the local communities to serve as the HUB. In September 2016 NCDPS put out an RFP to identify entities that would services as the intermediary agencies to oversee the work of the LRC, CJRC applied and was awarded the contract at the end of last year, in December 2016. The Criminal Justice Resource Center received a contract from DPS to serve as an Intermediary Agency to oversee, plan, develop and implement the LRC for Durham. The contract requires meetings with community partners and also the hiring of two (2) positions: a full time LRC Coordinator and a part time Job Placement Specialist. They will be working hand and hand with NCDPS preparing individuals coming back to Durham. CJRC has been meeting with community partners and identifying new partners over the last few years. The creation of the LRC allows for a more structured process with dedicated staff.
