Durham County Stadium

MISSION

To facilitate the safe operation of quality sporting and entertainment events that enhance the quality of life of the local community.

STADIUM OVERVIEW

The newly renovated Durham County Memorial Stadium (Stadium) is owned and operated by Durham County and is managed by the Stadium Authority. The Stadium reopened in the fall of 2010 with new and upgraded facilities, features and services for the citizens of Durham and the surrounding counties. The primary use is for football, soccer, lacrosse, track and field.

In 1959 the Durham County Memorial Stadium was built at the present site and became the home of major county sporting and community events.

The Stadium has become the home football playing field for Division II Shaw University, the host for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) football championship game, high school championships and the premier 2013 International Women’s Football League World Champions (IWFL), the Carolina Phoenix. The renovation has included a certified eight lane track that has attracted numerous track and field high school and collegiate events.

In addition to hosting spring carnivals and motorcycle rallies, outdoor concerts are in the plans to bring more excitement and entertainment to the citizens of Durham.
