Department Function

The mission of the Information Technology Department is to plan, manage, and support the County of Durham's information resources.

The Desktop Support Services division is staffed with helpdesk, desktop and audio visual technicians and administrators that are responsible for the first line support of all technology and resolution of audio visual, desktop hardware and software issues. The IT HelpDesk is the central point for reporting technology issues. Issues not resolved by the IT HelpDesk are forwarded to the responsible team resolution. The division manages the desktop life-cycle replacement of computers.

The Application Services division consists of a professional staff, including programmers, web developers, systems and business analysts, and project managers. The division is responsible for providing guidance and leadership in the planning, development, selection, implementation, use and support of applications across all business departments of the County. The division develops, supports and manages the County Internet and Intranet websites and applications.

The Network Services division is staffed with network engineers and administrators. The division is responsible for the design, implementation, operational support and security of the network infrastructure including: wireless, local and wide area networks; storage area networks; servers, appliances and other platforms supporting the applications and services of the network infrastructure.

The Administration division supports the other divisions of the IT Department as well as other county departments through fiscal and contract management; purchasing, receivables, and payables processes; recruiting; planning and budgeting, etc. Administration also is responsible for coordination and management of all telecommunications and voice services including billing, equipment and configuration countywide.
