To conserve, enhance and promote the natural resources of Durham County by providing technical assistance, environmental education information and economic incentives to County citizens and by exhibiting a diversified program to meet its changing needs.
The District is a governmental subdivision of the State; a public body organized in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 139 of the General Statutes of North Carolina and is subject to the powers and restrictions as set forth in G. S. 139.
Under this law the District has the responsibility of conserving soil, water, and related natural resources within the District boundary. The District board is made up of five Supervisors (two appointed and three elected and three Associate Supervisors).
The Board meets on the First Monday of every month at 5:30 P.M. at 721 Foster Street, Durham, NC 27701 (2nd floor conference room). Exception: The board will meet on the 2nd Monday of the month during the month of July and September. No meeting January 2017.
2016-2017 meetings: July 11, 2016; August 1, 2016; September 12, 2016; October 3, 2016; November 7, 2016 ; December 5, 2016; February 6, 2017; March 6, 2017; April 3, 2017; May 1, 2017; June 5, 2017.

The Durham SWCD Board will hold a special meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 11am. The meeting will be held at the Agricultural Building (721 Foster St, Durham, NC 27701) in the 2nd floor conference room.
