The number of youth between the ages of 16 and 20 are increasing.  Recent legislation increases the age a young person can stay in foster care from 18 to 21.  The needs of our older youth require the support from community members and organizations who value the role that our youth have in the community, and holding the vision to support independence by age 21.  The Department of Social Services is committed to the safe and healthy transition of youth to adulthood.  The following video includes the Durham County DSS Director, Michael Becketts talking about this issue.
